What Cfx escrow protection is — and what it is not
Escrow is a term you hear all over the FiveM script market but rarely see explained. In short: a Cfx.re mechanism that encrypts part of the source and binds the licence to your account.
The Cfx.re escrow system encrypts specific files of a resource that is sold, and only lets it run on a server that holds the licence. The goal is to make paid scripts harder to copy and redistribute.
What escrow does
- Encrypts the protected files; they are verified against Cfx.re while the server runs.
- Binds the licence to the CFX account that purchased it.
- Stops the resource from starting on a server without a licence.
What escrow does not do
- It does not protect your server against security holes — that is a separate topic.
- It does not lock config and locale files; those stay editable.
- It cannot verify on a machine with no internet connection.
- It does not encrypt NUI interface files (HTML/CSS/JS) — NUI is not supported by Cfx escrow.
Moving a licence to another account
The licence is assigned to the CFX account signed in during checkout, and moving it afterwards is subject to Cfx.re's own rules. Signing in with the account that actually owns the server is easier than sorting it out later.
